The Nanyang Technological University (NTU) invites applications for the position of Nanyang Assistant Professor at the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE).

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence in research, teaching, and service to the university community. This role involves leading and managing research initiatives, designing and delivering high-quality teaching, and actively contributing to the academic development of the school.

The successful candidate will be expected to:

Research:

  • Lead a dynamic research team and succeeding in applications for external research funding, whether individually or as part of a team.
  • Publish research papers in top-ranked international peer-reviewed journals and other forms of publication within the research community.
  • Establish collaborations with local/overseas research institutions.
  • Participate in development opportunities to improve research and supervision skills.

Teaching:

  • Design, plan, and implement effective and inclusive teaching arrangements and learning activities for undergraduate- and graduate-level courses face-to-face and/or through virtual delivery.
  • Develop, design and continuously improve curriculum plans, course outlines, evaluation procedures and instruments to foster student learning, stimulate class discussions, and ensure student engagement.
  • Provide guidance and supervision to graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Seek student feedback on teaching through questionnaires or other sources and respond constructively to such feedback.
  • Contribute to the School’s internal review and the external accreditation of subjects and programmes.

Service:

  • Participate in departmental meetings and in other committees and working groups as required.
  • Undertake specific departmental roles and management functions as required.
  • Provide academic support to other faculty members.
  • Participate in the School’s outreach/admission-related events and activities to raise awareness of the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering degree programmes.
  • Contribute to the University’s academic community through developing and organising seminars/conferences.
  • Contribute to the wider academic community through active participation in professional scientific societies, editorships, international grant reviewer ships, etc.

Candidates with the following qualifications are encouraged to apply:

  • Early researchers, holding a relevant PhD or equivalent degree, obtained within the last 10 years.
  • Have a strong track record of early achievements and the potential to lead an independent research group.
The School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering (MAE) is one of the top 15 mechanical and aerospace engineering schools in the world. With well-established industry partnerships, MAE provides an active and vibrant research environment with excellent R&D infrastructure and numerous opportunities for research funding.

The school has an enrolment of over 2500 undergraduate students with over 90 faculty members and 140 full-time research staff working in well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories. A growing research student population of over 400 is also actively engaged in strategic research and development work.
