The National Institute of Education invites suitable applications for the position of Research Assistant on a 11-month contract at the Office of Graduate Studies & Professional Learning.
Project Title: Emerging Technologies
Project Introduction: NIE promotes the assimilation of knowledge and skills for the effective design, development and use of innovative pedagogies and learning technologies through educational programmes, ethical interventions, collaborations and thought leadership.The Institute also aims to exemplify how emerging pedagogies, technology and spaces may be used to enhance life-long learning outcomes. By leveraging state-of-the-art technologies such as artificial intelligence in education, educators and learners can more effectively customise content, augment cognition, assess and evaluate learning outcomes, and enhance the overall learning process with the aid of simulations, visualisations and learning analytics.
This project will be conducted as part of the LIFE@NIE SGTM initiative that was introduced in 2020 to strengthen NIE’s capability and capacity to lead the future of education over the next decade.
Requirements:
The Office of Graduate Studies & Professional Learning is currently recruiting a highly motivated Research Assistant to perform relevant research and administrative duties to support the work of the Emerging Technologies SGA Workgroup.
Responsibilities:
- Develop proof-of-concept AI applications
- Conduct literature review related to emerging technologies
- Assist in conducting survey/collate information on emerging technologies (projects, courses, staff).
- Support various special interest groups related to emerging technologies (e.g., learning analytics, AIED).
- Develop repository of resources on emerging technologies.
- Draft bite-sized information on emerging technologies (e.g., AIED) to communicate with the NIE community.
- Support the execution of AIED action plans and other emerging technologies action plans.
- Help with planning and logistics of the launch of AIED workspace (or demo lab), management of labs, and demos of emerging technologies in the year 2026 to 2027.
- Prepare progress reports and papers related to emerging technologies for NIE senior leaders.
- Administrative support for other activities related to emerging technologies (e.g., study trips, hosting of visitors, workshops, and seminars)
Skills and qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, preferably in computer science and education.
- Possess good verbal and written communication skills.
- Possess good project management and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in literature review, research methodologies, data analyses, and report writing. Record of scientific writing skills and published papers is an advantage.
- Able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work collaboratively within a team environment.
- Proactive, willing to learn, reliable and able to manage concurrent tasks in a timely manner.
