Senior Linux Engineer (Data Center) - Bukit Batok

Responsibilities:

• Assist in developing and implementing capacity management strategies for large-scale data center server deployments to optimize resource utilization.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Supply Chain, Program Management, Operations, and Data Center Development, to assess server requirements and ensure adequate allocation of space, power, and rack capacity.
• Support the planning and execution of server deployment projects, including the installation of operating systems.
• Work effectively within a team in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.
• Contribute to the initial stages of data center design and construction, ensuring efficiency and sustainability.
• Apply fundamental knowledge of server energy efficiency and scalability best practices in data center environments.
• Install operating systems on newly mounted servers and oversee reinstallation processes while troubleshooting system abnormalities.
• Perform routine server maintenance, troubleshooting, and hardware repair, ensuring timely resolution of issues.
• Maintain accurate records in internal systems, including asset management, ticketing, and rack-related data.
• Coordinate with remote vendors or internal teams to address large-scale hardware failures and technical issues.
• Provide on-call support to resolve incidents reported by business stakeholders.
• Monitor and assess online asset status, identifying and resolving potential issues.
• Handle server decommissioning, including drive erasure and reconfiguration for retiring or relocating equipment.
• Modify and develop automation tools using scripts for operational efficiency.
• Manage and track RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) and media destruction processes.
• Troubleshoot server network issues and perform general server lifecycle management tasks.
• Support additional server operations-related tasks as needed.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Understanding of data center functions and technologies, including facility operations.
• Familiarity with basic data analytics.
• Experience with large-scale remote OS installations using PXE boot.
• Ability to understand and execute Bash Shell or Python scripts.
• Knowledge of automation tools such as Ansible.
• Proficiency in Linux systems with the ability to diagnose and resolve hardware or bare-metal failures.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Basic knowledge of networking concepts, including TCP/IP, subnetting, VLANs, DNS, and IPv6.
• Ability to perform general troubleshooting.
• Understanding of out-of-band and lights-out server communication technologies like IPMI and NCSI.
• Strong documentation and organizational skills.
