The School of Contemporary Music is seeking to appoint a full-time lecturer to nurture young music talent from Southeast Asia into distinctive artists for the contemporary music industry.

We are seeking a lecturer with expertise in teaching popular music performance, music skills, along with a good working knowledge of industry-standard DAW software. The successful candidate should be passionate about supporting emerging musicians to achieve performance excellence.

Reporting to the Programme Leader, you will primarily teach within the Diploma in Music (Popular Music Performance) programme. You will provide leadership in your area of specialisation—either vocal or instrumental—through principal study lessons and facilitate performance workshops, ensembles and music skills classes.

Key responsibilities include academic preparation, teaching and delivering specialist music skills and performance practices to meet students’ learning outcomes. Your role also involves working collaboratively with colleagues to support the School’s strategic goals.

Additional responsibilities include coordinating school events, curriculum and repertoire development, assisting the Programme Leader with scheduling, performance planning and resource management. You will also coordinate academic learning activities, liaise with part-time staff, conduct assessments, mentor students and participate in student recruitment.

The successful candidate is also expected to engage in research and/or professional practice that contributes to the development of the discipline and enhances student learning.

Requirements:

  • Postgraduate qualification, preferably at PhD/ DMA level or a minimum of a master’s degree is required.
  • At least five years of full-time tertiary or equivalent teaching experience, and a minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience in the contemporary music industry, with a recognised domestic and/or international profile.
  • A passion for teaching and experience in pastoral care, with a demonstrated ability to support and inspire students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills, and a collegial, team-oriented mindset.
  • Strong academic administration and computer literacy.
  • A positive attitude towards research, with an active or emerging research profile preferred.
