Roles & Responsibilities

This role will assist the head of chartering department in overseeing the chartering team and ensuring the successful execution of chartering activities for trade route of Asia to Indian Ocean, Middle East to Europe. This role requires strong commercial acumen, operational expertise, and strategic planning to optimize profitability while collaborating closely with other departments and offices globally.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Chartering Management
  • Conduct market research to analyze freight trends, demand-supply dynamics, and competitive landscape.
  • Assess and manage charterers’ creditworthiness to mitigate financial risks.
  • Negotiate and conclude voyage contracts, including COA (Contracts of Affreightment), spot charters, and other agreements.
  • Plan and manage vessel voyage schedules, optimizing fleet utilization and commercial efficiency.
  • Develop optimal stowage plans in collaboration with the operations team to maximize cargo efficiency.
  • Oversee budget management, cost control for chartering activities, outstanding B/L, LOI.
  • Prepare voyage estimations, financial projections, and weekly/monthly performance reports.
  • Lead and manage key chartering projects to enhance business profitability.
  1. Team Leadership & Development
  • Provide training, mentorship, and career development guidance to junior and subordinate staff.
  • Foster a high-performance culture within the chartering team, ensuring knowledge-sharing and continuous improvement.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  1. Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum 12 years in chartering and operations of Chemical Tankers.
  1. Technical & Industry Knowledge
  • Strong understanding of maritime laws and regulations, including MARPOL and the IBC Code.
  • Expertise in last cargo restrictions, such as FOSFA, NIOP, and Kosher requirements.
  • Experience in voyage charter and time charter contract negotiations.
  • Proficiency in accounting and finance principles relevant to chartering.
  • Hands-on experience with Veson IMOS or similar chartering software.
  • Technical & Marine knowledge of chemical and oil tankers including characteristics of basic tank coatings and linings (stainless steel)
  • Willing to take up any ad hoc project assignments.
  1. Language & Communication Skills
  • Proficiency in Japanese is required to effectively communicate with Japanese stakeholders and counterparts in parent company
  • Strong negotiation, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
