Sustainability Manager

JOB PURPOSE:

The ideal candidate brings a combination of analytic capabilities along with strategic thinking and superb interpersonal communication skills. He/she drives projects to completion and have the capacity to work with remote cross-functional teams and business managers through a structured approach, while managing day-to-day program operations.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

• Support the Sustainability VP in reporting on progress toward WSI’s environmental commitments
• Develop strategies to advance environmental sustainability in WSI operations as well as with WSI’s supply chain partners
• Provide support and tools to educate, empower, and influence internal cross-functional partners, WSI’s vendors, and sourcing offices to meet WSI’s Sustainability targets
• Research and recommend best practices within the area of environmental impact and benchmark prevailing trends
• Generate budgets and timelines to fulfill project requirements
• Drive progress toward WSI’s Science-based Target (SBT) including implementation of renewable energy procurement strategy, supply chain engagement, annual reporting and data refinement
• Coordinate completion of external surveys and requests for information from various membership organizations, investor groups, and ranking organizations
• Lead 3rdparty assurance and verification work for external reporting
• Build partnerships and collaborations with external peers and sustainability organizations to drive the industry-wide changes needed to meet global climate and biodiversity challenges
• Oversee WSI certification to industry-leading 3rd party sustainability standards including certifying body selection, process development and training, and marketing guidance
• Develop proposals and educational materials for executive leadership to gain support and approval for sustainability initiatives
• Manage direct reports and interns with an eye toward career development and building bench strength for the Sustainability team

• Experienced supply chain professional with focus on sustainability and environmental impact
• Proven organizational and project management skills
• Experience managing data and providing analytical reports
• Capable of managing simultaneous projects in a dynamic environment
• Excellent communication and presentation skills
• Ability to clearly articulate goals and objectives
• Ability to exercise a high degree of professionalism
• Self-starter who proactively anticipates business needs
• Proficiency in Windows XP, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint
• Bachelor's degree in Business, Environmental Studies or a related field
• 5+ years related experience as a leader in corporate sustainability managing a team (developing, enforcing, and/or influencing implementation)
